One person discovered a newborn kitten in his front yard in Las Vegas, United States, sadly a few feet away, he found her siblings who sadly did not survive. There was no sign of the mother cat anywhere and the kitten was in dire need of care.
Nikki Martinez, who is a TNR (trap-neuter-return) rescuer and protector, immediately decided to take over the child’s care. She and her husband have rescued many cats from difficult abandonment situations over the past decade.
At the time they received the feline, Nikki’s husband was going through a difficult time due to a cancer diagnosis, but despite everything they wanted to help the tiny ball of hair to get ahead.
KITTEN FOUND IN A PATIO SHOWS HER GREAT FIGHTING SPIRIT
Nikki told Love Meow:
“She was small and fragile and we didn’t know what the future held for her, but we were determined to give her a fighting chance.”
The little kitten was named Rocky, she was a girl and very brave of course. She survived her first night; it was put in an incubator to give it the necessary heat.
The couple worked together to ensure that the kitten was fed all day. Nikki fed her every two hours at night, and soon Rocky developed a huge appetite and was growing strong.
The woman’s husband, nicknamed Foster Papi, helped bottle-feed the feline whenever possible, and Rocky always thanked him by leaving a smile on her face.
As the days went by, the kitten finally left her nest and moved to a mini playpen, where she could run and be much more comfortable. She was fascinated by all the new toys and wanted to take them all, although she still couldn’t quite stand upright, she was quite a fighter.
She was a spoiled little girl and demanded to be fed all day. She did not let her foster mother rest and was her greatest support when Foster Papi underwent life-saving surgery.
As soon as Foster Papi was discharged from the clinic, he struggled to get back to some of the parenting duties. He immediately approached Rocky with a bottle of milk and she happily followed him.
It was a great moment. These two fighters were mutually supportive and happy to be together at the time.
Rocky became an independent kitten; She was curious and mischievous, she enjoyed running around her home and did all kinds of mischief. The feline loves to play with Foster Papi, chasing his feet or running around after him; she enjoys just being by his side to offer him purrs and some massages.
“She is very different from any bottle baby I have ever had. It is extremely independent. She was the only survivor of her litter. It is precious and has truly been a gift to my husband and me as we navigated through his cancer diagnosis and treatment.
After a while, she found the right home to live in forever, and Rocky made her dream come true. Now the kitten will have her own family and love in spades.
«TNR and parenting is our passion. Having the ability to care for kittens in need has been our joy for the past 10 years. For each day that we are healthy and strong, we will continue with this work.
