Intense, 20 Hour Long Rescue Of A Sperm Whale To Make It Swim Free One More Day In The Sea

A group of fishermen joined forces to help an adult sperm whale stranded on the seashore. Nobody wanted the mammal to perish, so the help added up while the rescue was carried out, which lasted more than 20 hours but was undoubtedly worth it.

For those who believe that all hope is lost regarding humanity, they will surely be able to bet on it again, after learning about this story up close.

The sperm whale survived to swim free one more day in the sea

The animal was reeling in shallow water when a fisherman discovered it. The more than 19-meter-long sperm whale had been stranded in a quagmire near the city of Ningbo, in Zhejiang province (China).

About 740 meters from the shoreline of the beach was the animal that was anxiously fighting to survive. Unable to move his body, he could only flap his tail and when the tide went out he was completely exposed.

The sperm whale was at risk of suffocating under its own weight or dying of dehydration.

The heat was another risk factor for the animal, so the fishermen tried to help it as quickly as possible. Although the matter took much longer than they imagined and obviously required specialized equipment.

The authorities used five boats to try to move the sperm whale, but none of this worked. While the men used buckets to hydrate the animal.

“Bloat holds internal body heat and causes overheating if the whale can’t get rid of the heat in another way,” said Bruce Mate, emeritus professor of fisheries, wildlife and conservation and former director of the Marine Mammal Institute at Hatfield. the Oregon State University.

After nearly a day’s struggle to keep the shallot safe, after 10 p.m. the tide began to rise high enough to facilitate the rescue.

At that moment the boats intervened again, holding the animal with ropes in order to drag it to its habitat.

Although it was not easy, these men managed it and, once the sperm whale was submerged to the right level, it managed to start swimming again on its own and return to the sea.

The moment was quite satisfying for everyone in the place, because the effort had been worth it.

Due to its size, it is very likely that the specimen in question was an adult male. According to the specialist, this was a blessing since the females and the youngest live in a herd and when one of them gets stuck, the rest of the group follow him in order to help him.

However, such a scene would have been unfortunate. In fact, for the professor the survival of the sperm whale he rescues is doubtful; although not for that he applauds all the sacrifice made by the rescuers.

These men behaved like heroes, but nobody knows what happened to the animal’s survival, once it was back in the sea.

“Good for them for making a noble effort to try to get this animal back into the sea, but the odds are pretty tough. What happens to these animals is that their individual organs start the death process, but the whole animal doesn’t die until days later,” Mate said.

The circulatory system of these large creatures is affected when they spend so much time stranded and it is difficult for them to recover. However, we believe that these men have done the right thing and that they also gave us a new reason to bet on humanity.

In this case, there were dozens of people working to save the sperm whale before the specialists arrived, and they were all moved by a single reason: to do good.

Applause for all those who respect life and value every creature on our planet!
