Rescuers from the Sunshine Dog Rescue found this weak little girl named Georgia wandering near a gas station by the US-Mexico border. It was a miracle in itself that the dog was even alive in that harsh living conditions. After that, she recently tragically lost her whole litter of puppies—Georgia went through an emergency C-section, but unfortunately, the vets were not able to save her unborn pups. All of them were born prematurely.
The unfortunate girl, an Australian shepherd mix, became desperate while trying to find her pups whom she’d already lost. “The best way I could describe it was she was frantic,” Anita Osa, founder of Sunshine Dog Rescue, told ABC15 recently. “It was so sad, she was looking for those babies. She tore up the toddler mattress we had her on, trying to find her babies.”
As the unfortunate dog was lactating, Anita took to Facebook on a quest to find puppies who would need breastfeeding. Coincidentally, there were four orphaned kittens who were in need of a caring mom. At first, the founder of Sunshine Dog Rescue was worried as cats are an entirely different species, but in no time, they proved to be an amazing match. “I was certainly unsure,” Anita told the media. “But I had seen other species nurse another species before, so I thought ‘worse case scenario she doesn’t take to them and I have some kittens I need to tend to myself.’”
Unfortunately, one of the four kittens died the very first night. But luckily, the remaining trio was doing perfectly well under the care of their new dog mama. The rescue center took care of the blended family, where both the dog and the kittens recovered.
Talking about the beginning of the creation of the new family, Anita told the media: “I introduced them to her gently. I first brought one out and let her sniff it, and she seemed to accept it, so I brought the others out. It’s amazing to see how she instantly calmed down. I think for the kittens, they have no idea that Georgia is a dog.”
Fast forward to today, all four animals have since been adopted by their new families. In fact, Georgia even lives with one of her kitten babies, as the roommate of the person who took her in fell in love with one of them!
